4000
Series CMOS Technology
The 4000 series (also known as Metal Gate) is moving more slowly
through its product life cycle than other technologies. This product
features high voltage (up to 15 volts) and temperature tolerance and is
extensively used in the automotive and industrial markets. Suppliers:
Texas Instruments, ON Semiconductor, NXP, STMicroelectronics.
ABT - Advanced BiCMOS Technology
Advanced BiCMOS technology incorporates the speed of BiPolar with
the power savings of CMOS. ABT will most likely replace other families
like TTL as it continues to evolve. ABT is mostly used in high
performance computing and communications equipment. Suppliers: Texas
Instruments, NXP.
AC/ACT - Advanced CMOS
Advanced CMOS (AC/ACT) offers high-speed and ultra low power with
guaranteed latch-up immunity. Advanced CMOS is a high-performance family
found mostly in communications applications and computers. Suppliers:
Texas Instruments, ON Semiconductor, STMicroelectronics.
AHC(T)/VHC(T) - Advanced (V) High CMOS
AHC(T)/VHC(T) is an enhanced version of the industry's High Speed CMOS
(HC/T) family. This technology offers a cost-effective advantage with a
performance upgrade including higher drive, faster speed and no noise
penalty. AHC(T)/VHC(T) are identical on a pin for pin basis. This
technology fits a broad range of applications such as computers,
consumer, industrial, automotive, PC peripheral, portable and
telecommunications. Suppliers: Texas Instruments, ON Semiconductor,
NXP, STMicroelectronics.
ALS - Advanced Low Power Schottky
Delivers twice the data handling efficiency with up to 50%
reduction in power consumption as compared with LS, making it the lowest
power advanced TTL family. Supplier: Texas Instruments
AS - Advanced Schottky
Offers high switching speed with propagation delays of 4ns but
consumes more power than standard TTL devices. Supplier: Texas
Instruments
BCT - BiCMOS Technology
BCT is a family of 8,9 and 10-bit drivers, latches, transceivers and
registered transceivers. Designed specifically for bus-interface
applications, BCT offers TTL I/O with high speeds and very low power in
the disabled mode. New products are now created in ABT technology.
CBT - Crossbar/Bus Switch
Crossbar Technology enables a bus-interface device to function as
a very fast bus switch, isolating buses when the switch is open and
offering very little delay when the switch is closed. Supplier: Texas
Instruments
Clock Management
There is a broad range of clock drivers available to support
voltage levels from 2.5V to 5.0V in both CMOS I/O and various
differential I/O technologies. Clock drivers solve clock skew and clock
multiplication/division issues. Many Phase Lock Loops (PLL's) used in
SDRAM and PC motherboard applications require clock drivers. Clock
drivers are found in telecom equipment, networking equipment, personal
computers, work stations, main frame computers, printers, servers and
PCI bus cards. Suppliers: STMicroelectronics, NXP, Texas Instruments and ON Semiconductor
ECL - Emitter Coupled Logic
ECL is a non-saturated form of digital logic that eliminates transistor
storage time permitting very high speed operation. Suppliers: ON
Semiconductor
FAST - Fast Advanced Schottky
FAST offers 20% to 30% improvement over standard Schottky (74S)
with a 75% to 80% reduction in power. FAST is a state-of-the-art TTL
family. Suppliers: NXP and Texas Instruments
FCT - Fast CMOS Technology
FCT includes a broad range of families with specific target
applications. FCT provides high speed and very low power dissipation
that is compatible in form, fit and function with standard logic
families. Fast CMOS technology is found in a variety of applications
including personal computers, network switches and routers, wireless
telephony, memory modules, hand-held computers and set-top boxes.
Suppliers: Texas Instruments
HC/HCT - High Speed CMOS High-speed
CMOS
(HCMOS) delivers the low power, high noise immunity of CMOS at
the speed performance of Low Power Schottky (LS) at a low price.
Suppliers: ON Semiconductor, NXP, STMicroelectronics, Texas
Instruments.
LCX,
LVX, LVC, LVQ, LVT - Low Voltage Technology
In response to demand for portable systems, higher performance and lower
operation voltages are required of standard logic. Many suppliers are
now offering low voltage solutions. Each product family features unique
operating characteristics and performance attributes optimized for
specific low voltage applications. Suppliers: ON Semiconductor, NXP, STMicroelectronics, Texas Instruments.
LS
- Low Power Schottky (TTL)
LS features a combined five-fold reduction in current and power when
compared to standard TTL. Suppliers: ON Semiconductor and Texas
Instruments
S
- Schottky & 7400 TTL*
Schottky offers speeds twice as fast as LS but comes with the penalty of
high power consumption. Supplier: Texas Instruments. TTL (74xxx) offers
a combination of speed, power consumption, output source and sink
capabilities suitable for most applications. Supplier: Texas Instruments
*There has been a decline in these devices as
newer technologies are introduced. They are not recommended for new
designs.
Single
Gate
Single gate functions are the smallest packages available today. The
packages are so small that they are only available on a reel. Single
gates provide a simple solution for all market segments facing concerns
about miniaturization, time to market and cost effectiveness. Common
applications include computers, communication terminals and consumer
products. All single gate devices are not pin-for-pin compatible.
